Phu Lam School
Phu Lam Hamlet, Phu Gia Commune (Huong Khe District, Ha Tinh Province), is nestled within the Truong Son Mountain range, bordering Laos. This area is home to 61 Lao Thueng households and 114 Kinh households.
The school in Phu Lam Village, located in Phu Gia Commune, is more than 17 kilometers away from the center of Huong Khe Town. It serves as a learning place for over 30 children of various ethnic groups, including Lao, Nung, Tay, Kinh, and Chut.
The school consists of two one-story houses: one is used as a classroom, while the other serves as a dining and boarding facility for the students.
For decades, many generations of students in Phu Lam Hamlet have had to study together in a mixed-grade class within a room that is over 30 square meters.
Phu Lam is a poor hamlet where the residents primarily rely on forest-based livelihoods. The socio-economic conditions are still challenging. The local poverty rate is quite high, and most of the children come from policy families with special difficulties living in the area.
The facilities and teaching equipment available for daily use by the students are still lacking, not meeting the minimum requirements for the school’s activities.
